A distinctively British dining establishment emerges on the riverside of the Thames
Nestled on the first floor of Fulham Pier, overlooking the River Thames with views near Craven Cottage stadium, Brasserie Constance is a new riverside dining destination in London. The project is the brainchild of Michelin-star chef Adam Byatt, renowned for his years of top-level culinary experience, including Michelin recognition at Trinity.
A Blend of Heritage and Contemporary Style
The concept and menu at Brasserie Constance are inspired by the flavours of British kitchens and homes, paying homage to Constance Spry, a pioneering British florist and author known for her influence on British culinary and flower arranging traditions. This positioning emphasizes a quintessentially British dining experience, combining nostalgic influences with Adam Byatt’s refined culinary approach.
The Interiors and Ceramics
The interiors of Brasserie Constance are elegantly designed by Lazaro Rosa-Violán, who recently renovated The Palace Hotel in Madrid. The restaurant features thoughtfully crafted ceramics that pay homage to Spry's pottery work, with Adam Byatt collaborating closely with the Crafts Council to commission five female ceramicists to create bespoke, everyday objects for the restaurant.
The Menu and Drinks
While no detailed published menu was found, Brasserie Constance is described as a brasserie-style restaurant focusing on traditional British cooking flavors with a modern execution. Starters on the menu include potted duck with rosehip jelly, London smoked salmon, and braised leeks with vinaigrette.
Heartier mains include clay-pot chicken with barley and beer, a crusted rack of lamb, pie and mash, and toad in the hole. Desserts evoke the late Victorian era with options like a towering baked Alaska or English strawberries with cream. The main dining area features a selection of classic cocktails, from martinis to Negronis to gin and tonics.
Flo, the bar adjacent to the restaurant, offers a concise menu of small plates and a wine list curated by Jack Byatt, Adam's son. Small bites are available alongside cocktails at the main dining area, such as smoked haddock croquettes, pea and mint tartlets, and steak and ale skewers. Byatt pays homage to Spry with his menu via dishes like chicken pâté en croûte, a twist on classic coronation chicken which Spry helped create.
