The Barmer Anlagen, the second-largest private park in Germany, offers a unique opportunity for exploration. Located in Heckinghausen, this expansive green space spans over 300 hectares and includes the Barmer Forest.

The tour begins at 2:40 PM at the Weberstraße bus stop for line 644. Sturdy footwear is required for the 2.5-hour journey, which will take you through various points of interest.

The route includes the Dicke-Ibach staircase, Villa Friedländer, Luther Church, Hofeshaus Lütterkus-Heidt, the Bleicherteichen, the historic horse trough, and the Ringeldenkmal. Numerous monuments and memorial stones stand on the grounds, including one that commemorates the Barmer Bergbahn, a decommissioned rack railway.

Of particular note, the tour will feature a performance by Professor Dr. Joachim Dorfmüller. He will play musical works by Carl Maria von Weber, Edvard Grieg, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, and the Bergisches Heimatlied "Wo die Wälder noch rauschen" in the Luther Church during the tour.

The Barmer Anlagen has been funded exclusively by private funds since its inception in 1864. For 160 years, the Barmer Verschönerungsverein (BVV) has been engaged in its care and preservation. The BVV has been dedicated to the Barmer Anlagen, and their efforts have ensured its continued beauty and historical significance.

"Krawatte," the tour, is wheelchair accessible, and no registration is required. Participation in the tour is free, making it an accessible and enjoyable experience for all.

The public tour by the Heidter Civic Association will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2025. Don't miss this chance to explore the Barmer Anlagen and learn about its rich history. A donation of five euros is requested for the tour, which goes towards the continued maintenance and preservation of this remarkable park.

Lastly, the Toelleturm, the highest point in the Barmer Anlagen, can be climbed as an observation tower, offering breathtaking views of the park and the surrounding area. So, grab your sturdy shoes, and join us for a journey through the Barmer Anlagen!
