Alena Schröder is gleefully reveling in Wiedenbrücker Kirchplatz's square.
Last Friday, the Wiedenbrück church square played host to a captivating Summer Night Reading event, featuring the renowned author, journalist, and columnist Alena Schröder. This was the third time the popular Berlin-based writer graced the event, drawing over 100 visitors who were eager to immerse themselves in her witty and relatable stories.
Organized by the Volkshochschule (VHS) Reckenberg-Ems, the Wiedenbrück city library, and the Güth bookstore, the theme of the evening was "Cozy Living Room Evening," creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that resonated with the audience.
Alena Schröder's novels and columns are deeply rooted in her family history and life experiences, offering her readers a unique blend of reality and fiction. Her latest book, "Alles muss man selber falsch machen" (One Must Make All Mistakes Oneself), follows the same narrative style.
During the event, visitors were treated to a series of amusing anecdotes hidden behind titles such as "Only those who can cut bread can also get married," "Alpha animal in the bedroom," or "Love letters by fax," each infused with a touch of irony from the author's life.
The evening was filled with laughter, as the author found relatable everyday situations for her columns, adhering to the motto, "If something goes wrong, at least a good column comes out of it."
In keeping with tradition, the church bells of St. Aegidius Church rang out at the end of the reading, signalling the start of an autograph session where visitors could purchase one of Alena Schröder's books at the Wiedenbrück bookstore Gueth, have it signed by the author, and exchange a few words with her after the reading.
A unique feature of the event was the "Doppelherzmethode" (Double Heart Method), where each visitor received two hearts with the same number to prevent seat disputes. This method added a fun and engaging twist to the event, further enhancing the overall experience for attendees.
Alena Schröder expressed her appreciation for the event, stating that it was special to see people coming because of her. As a writer, she enjoys the contact with her audience, as the writer's life can be quite lonely.
Dr. Sybille Schneiders from the VHS is already planning for next year's event, aiming to further develop the concept of the reading room and create an even more enjoyable experience for all involved.
In the spirit of the event, attendees were invited to explore a selection of Alena Schröder's books, available for purchase at the Güth bookstore, offering a perfect addition to their home-and-garden or lifestyle collections. As the evening concluded, guests laughed and shared stories with Schröder, reminiscing about their favorite entertainment moments from her witty and engaging columns.
