At the Plant Festival Dawn, the Chemnitz-2025 "Thrive Neighborhood" main initiative saw roughly 600 individuals work together to plant 400 apple trees.

Apple tree planting festival held in Chemnitz and its surrounding capital region, with 400 apple trees planted during the event.

From March 30 to April 6, 2025, Chemnitz and its cultural capital region served as a green action zone, hosting the "Aufbruch" planting festival. Over 600 participants came together to plant 400 apple trees, as part of the Chemnitz-2025 main project, "Lived Neighborhood."

Forty institutions participated, including educational establishments, church communities, companies, and committed residents. These institutions took on sustainable planting and care partnerships to ensure the trees' long-term maintenance. The week-long event culminated on April 6 with a family festival at the Chemnitz Industrial Museum grounds, where seven trees of rare varieties were planted. The Industrial Museum and Decathlon will collaborate to care for these trees for the next twelve years, with Decathlon also providing sports and leisure items for the festival.

The largest planting action within Chemnitz's city park resulted in 165 apple trees, supported by employees from Deutsche Post AG, VW engine plant, the Green Space Office, Oberschule am Flughafen, the Hort of the Cooperation School, and volunteers from Chemnitz 2025, alongside BUND.

Planting also occurred in Augustusburg, Schloss- und Barockgarten Lichtenwalde, Frankenberg, and on company grounds such as HOMATEC Industrietechnik.

The subsequent Apple Tree Planting Festival, "Harvest," is scheduled for October 19-26, 2025.

For updates on upcoming events, it is advised to follow the official Chemnitz 2025 project channels and the "Lived Neighborhood" Instagram account. These platforms regularly announce new activities and gatherings for tree planting and community celebrations.

Scientists and environmental-science enthusiasts may find interest in the upcoming Apple Tree Planting Festival, "Harvest," scheduled for October 19-26, 2025, in Chemnitz. This event follows the success of the "Aufbruch" planting festival, where apple trees were not only planted but also cared for through collaborative partnerships involving home-and-garden enthusiasts and companies such as Decathlon.
