In an effort to promote environmental education and sustainability, the city of Kamp-Lintfort is inviting local associations to participate in the 'Klimabäume' (climate trees) project as part of the International Garden Exhibition 2027.

Applications for participating associations with suitable planting areas are now open and can be submitted on the website www.klimabaeume.ruhr. The deadline for applications is the end of November 2025.

The 'Klimabäume' project aims to ecologically upgrade unused green spaces on the premises of participating clubs. By planting climate trees, associations can contribute to improving the city's climate, enhancing air quality, and providing shade. Trees in urban areas not only improve climate by cooling air through evaporation and filtering pollutants, but they also significantly contribute to the quality of life, particularly in adapting to climate change consequences like hot summers and extreme weather events.

Mayor Prof. Dr. Christoph Landscheidt encourages all clubs with suitable planting spaces to participate. Participating associations will receive planting packages containing regional seeds, saplings, and other materials. Children and youth will be prepared for planting actions through a 'Train-the-Trainer' format and club-based training.

After the planting actions, children and youth will be involved in the care of the areas to ensure their successful growth. Those who make a particularly strong commitment to the project will receive an award.

The culmination of the project will be the Greendays - environmental educational family experience days. These events will feature a colorful program, interactive activities, a market of opportunities, and a stage show, all designed to present the project to the public.

Participation in the exhibition offers Kamp-Lintfort associations a chance to be visibly part of a large-scale future project. By joining the 'Klimabäume' project, associations can help Kamp-Lintfort shape its city in a sustainable, livable, and future-proof way.

So, if you're a local association with a green thumb and a passion for the environment, consider applying for the 'Klimabäume' project today! Together, we can make Kamp-Lintfort a greener and more sustainable city.
