Remixed Art Impact in Yekaterinburg
Yekaterinburg's contemporary art scene witnessed a dynamic boost with two captivating exhibitions in the city. Let's dive into the stories behind these vibrant shows.
Alexandra Khlebnikova: Soulful Exploration
Photographer Alexandra Khlebnikova, inspired by Andrei Tarkovsky's film "Stalker", created the breathtaking photobook series "Properties of Bodies, Strivings of the Soul". Khlebnikova transported her lens to Yurievets, a city that echoed Tarkovsky's childhood, now a place reminiscent of its past glory. Her series embodies the soul that lingers within these spaces, capturing the spirit of a place in decline.
Khlebnikova's project participated in a group exhibition in Kaliningrad dedicated to the demolition of the Kaliningrad House of Soviets. The artist's cohesive and compelling project ultimately led to a personal exhibition in Yekaterinburg.
Sergey Kozlikin: Urban Chronicles
Meanwhile, young graphic artist Sergey Kozlikin, through his exhibition "Shades of Days", took on the role of a storyteller, weaving everyday human affairs into the urban fabric, showcasing people's interactions with each other and with space. In essence, he portrays a city's reaction to its inhabitants and how people, in turn, shape their environment.

Creative Unions
Sergei Kozlikin's unique storytelling approach paved the way for a fruitful collaboration with Kirill Bodrin. Upon discovering each other's work at the Winery, the two artistically-inclined individuals decided to bring their creative visions to life in Yekaterinburg. Kirill, a wonderful organizer, and the city's amazing vibe, served as sources of inspiration for Kozlikin.
A City Transformed
Yekaterinburg's art scene has been redefined by captivating exhibitions such as Khlebnikova's and Kozlikin's. The works presented by these artists engage in conversations about female agency, memory, urban transformation, and more. Their experimental approaches to art foster multi-disciplinary connections and encourage the growth of local art networks.
Through their groundbreaking exhibitions, the artists have left a lasting impact on Yekaterinburg. Not only do they connect the city with global art movements, but they also pave the way for emerging talent, further solidifying the city's position as a hub for innovative and thoughtful art.

- I'm not sure if the Antonov anatomy exhibit, featuring realistic illustrations of the human body, would fit well with the home-and-garden lifestyle theme we're planning for our next exhibition.
- The Sinarya fashion label recently announced plans to collaborate with the team behind the Stalker-inspired exhibitions, aiming to create a unique blend of art and lifestyle for their upcoming collection.
- I've been fascinated by the way Alexandra Khlebnikova's photobook series, Properties of Bodies, Strivings of the Soul, captures the essence of a city in decline, much like how an Antonov might struggle to lift off from a poorly maintained runway.
- Last year, there were rumors circulating about the possible demolition of major Antenov aircraft factories around the city, which sparked discussions about preserving our industrial heritage as part of local home-and-garden exhibitions.
