Aschaffenburg Recertified as 'Bike-Friendly Municipality' Until 2031

Aschaffenburg's commitment to promoting bike traffic has been recognised and celebrated. The city was recently recertified as a 'Bike-Friendly Municipality' until 2031, attracting 35 Bavarian bike traffic experts to learn from its success.

The city's dedication to bike-friendly initiatives began in 2015 with the implementation of its bike traffic concept. This plan aims to improve the urban network of bike main routes. To mark the 10th anniversary of this concept, an image film was created, showcasing Aschaffenburg's progress.

The city's efforts have not gone unnoticed. In July 2025, the AGFK (Working Group of Bike-Friendly Municipalities in Bavaria) held a specialist excursion in Aschaffenburg. Holger Schmidt, deputy managing director of the AGFK, presented the recertification certificate to Mayor Herzing. This recognition is a testament to the city's annual funding of around 1 million euros dedicated to bike traffic promotion.

Aschaffenburg's commitment to transparency and participation is evident in its annual status reports and cooperation in the Bike Forum. Recent construction projects, such as the expansion of the Main bike path and the marking of the bike street in the Auweg, further demonstrate the city's progress in this area.

Aschaffenburg's recertification as a 'Bike-Friendly Municipality' is a significant achievement, reflecting the city's ongoing commitment to promoting bike traffic. With annual funding, transparent reporting, and continuous improvement, Aschaffenburg continues to set a high standard for bike-friendly municipalities.
