Austrian politicians mark Easter through festivities and rituals

As the Easter holiday approaches, several Austrian politicians are preparing to celebrate the festive occasion with their loved ones, engaging in traditional activities, and enjoying the cultural events that Austria is known for.

Chancellor Christian Stocker is expected to take a break from his duties, weather permitting, to indulge in his hobbies. He may be spotted playing the saxophone or cruising around on his Vespa during his Easter holiday.

The Green Party's designated leader, Leonore Gewessler, is planning a relaxing Easter with her husband. After a busy few weeks, she looks forward to spending a lot of time outdoors, walking, and recharging.

NEOS leader Beate Meinl-Reisinger will celebrate Easter with her husband, three daughters, and extended family. They enjoy spending time together playing board games and participating in the traditional Austrian Easter egg tapping.

Family Minister Claudia Plakolm is planning to attend a resurrection service in Easter night and will also be baking brioche braids or an Easter lamb to mark the occasion.

However, specific plans for Easter celebrations in 2023 for other Austrian politicians are not available. Nevertheless, Austria typically observes Easter with traditional festivities and religious services.

Austrian Easter traditions include decorating eggs using natural dyes like onion skins and beets, baking special breads and pastries, participating in Easter egg hunts, and attending church services. One of the significant events during Easter in Vienna is the Vienna Easter Markets, which offer a blend of cultural activities, food, and shopping.

State Secretary Alexander Proll will celebrate Easter with family on Monday in a larger circle in Radlbrunn, where he will enjoy a game of table tennis with the grandparents. Vice-Chancellor Andreas Babler will celebrate Easter with his wife, daughter, and dog Ika in Vorarlberg.

Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen will spend Easter in the Kaunertal, Tyrol with his wife Doris Schmidauer. Vice-Chancellor Babler's wife Karin, who is from Vorarlberg, and FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl have plans to visit their parents in Carinthia and Tyrol, respectively, during Easter week.

Infrastructure Minister Peter Hanke will celebrate Easter abroad, serving a classic Easter brunch with ham, horseradish, and eggs. Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig will attend the high mass at St. Stephen's Cathedral on Easter Sunday.

Despite the lack of specific information about an Easter egg hunt with Vice-Chancellor Babler, it is clear that Austrian politicians are looking forward to celebrating Easter with their families and participating in the country's rich cultural traditions.
