BUWOG's Berlin-Kaulsdorf Quarter: 166 Timber-Frame Apartments by 2024

BUWOG, a Vonovia subsidiary, is developing a new residential quarter in Berlin-Kaulsdorf. The 'Lion Feuchtwanger 61' project, located near the Vivantes Kaulsdorf Clinic, will bring 166 rental apartments to the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district. Construction is set to begin later this year, with completion expected by 2024.

The project, spanning over 14,000 square meters, includes 18 semi-detached and terraced houses, along with seven multi-family houses. All apartments are being built using sustainable timber construction, which is expected to save around 5,200 tons of CO2 compared to traditional steel-reinforced concrete methods.

Demolition of existing buildings began in January 2022 and is scheduled to finish by the end of June 2022. Once completed, the site will be unsealed to create green outdoor spaces, with around 620 square meters allocated for playgrounds and recreational areas. The future quarter's heating will mainly be supplied by renewable energies using an air-water heat pump and photovoltaic systems.

The 'Lion Feuchtwanger 61' project aims to provide sustainable and eco-friendly housing in Berlin-Kaulsdorf. With its timber construction and focus on renewable energy, it is set to make a positive impact on the local environment and community.
