This holiday season, the Christmas market in the pedestrian zone and the Stiftung Schloss und Park Benrath are joining forces to bring a unique and enchanting pre-Christmas event to the residents and visitors of Düsseldorf. The festivities, taking place under the tense circumstances of the ongoing pandemic, aim to bring joy and cheer to both children and adults.
Visitors can explore a variety of unique, handmade crafts, predominantly produced in Benrath and the surrounding areas. These one-of-a-kind items, showcased at the picturesque stalls, offer a perfect opportunity to find that special gift or a memorable souvenir from the event.
The event takes place within the captivating setting of Schloss Benrath and the village market, with enchanting lights, cozy wooden huts, and soothing Christmas music creating a festive atmosphere. The castle, open only on weekends until December 19th, will be adorned with seasonal decorations, offering a dreamlike backdrop for the market.
Lisa Maier-Bode from the castle foundation encourages everyone to visit the "Christmas market with a dreamlike backdrop." In addition to the traditional market stalls, special events are planned, such as storytelling sessions by Frau Holle Inge Pohler and a Sunday shopping event on December 5th.
The village market, located near the palace grounds, will be open until December 23rd, with typical hours of operation being Monday to Friday from 11 am to 8 pm, and Friday to Sunday from 11 am to 9 pm. While the exact events and schedules for December 2021 are not yet available, the market is expected to offer local crafts, food specialties, and seasonal entertainment.
To ensure the safety of all visitors, spot checks are being carried out at both locations, and the 2G rule and proper distancing will be enforced during the Sunday shopping event. Hot drinks and culinary delights such as potato pancakes, almonds, waffles, and "our chestnut man" are available at the markets for those seeking a taste of the holiday season.
