Charitable effort in Vienna: Rich history combats poverty through private resources
In the heart of Vienna, a 31-year-old man named Mario Orth has been making a significant difference in the lives of those in need. For the past year, Orth has been organising food distributions from central locations, funded by his private fortune.
Orth, a resident of Döbling, founded his own party, More Quality of Life (MLQ), in January. Despite having enough support declarations, he chose not to run in the district council elections. Instead, he has been focusing his efforts on providing food and support to those who need it most.
Orth's charitable work began when he started offering free food to those in need, often providing warm water via a hose from a neighbour's apartment. His generosity has not gone unnoticed, as he is generally welcomed in the districts of Vienna, despite the challenges he faces.
One of the main challenges Orth encounters is the permit restrictions, which only allow for a maximum of two months per district per year for food distributions. Despite this, Orth continues to persevere, working day and night on his projects.
On Saturday, September 19, 2020, Orth's next food distribution will take place at Margareten at the Siebenbrunnenplatz. The organisation 'Die Tafel' will open a wooden stall for distributing warm meals at 11 a.m. Orth's initiatives extend beyond food distribution, as he supports six kindergartens, mainly with food donations, sometimes also financially.
Orth's dedication to helping others is not limited to adults. He has a special affection for children and young people, and a children's program, including a puppet theater and painting, has been announced for the food distribution event.
Orth's wealth, inherited from his family, allows him to support his initiatives, although he is not a billionaire. Despite his success, Orth's work is a one-man show, with no team behind him.
Orth's good contacts have helped him in organising food purchases from supermarkets and distributing the food in apartment buildings. Despite his dissatisfaction with the politics in the country, Orth continues to make a positive impact in the lives of those in need in Vienna.
