Charity art auction being held in Iðnó today, raising funds for the welfare of refugee children

On Saturday, December 17th, head on over to Iðnó for an afternoon of art, music, and social impact! From 2-4pm, join in a charity art auction to support refugee children. This event promises a unique blend of artistic masterpieces and melodious entertainment, providing a platform for everyone to make a meaningful contribution.

Among the artworks showcased at the auction will be pieces by renowned artists as well as creations by children who are and aspire to be change-makers.

Esther Þorvaldsdóttir, co-founder of the socially-conscious organization Rights for Refugee Children, shares her insights on the importance of prioritizing children's rights. The organization, established in Iceland in 2019, advocates for the respect of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child across Icelandic institutions, particularly institutions surrounding immigration and childcare.

Despite the Convention being legalized in Iceland, there are instances of the Convention being overlooked and children's rights being violated.

Esther and her team at Rights for Refugee Children are dedicated to guiding children through the legal process and addressing crucial, precedent-setting cases. In addition, they strive to ensure that the voices of the affected children are heard—they are more than just their parents' luggage.

A number of Icelandic artists have donated their works to support the cause, presenting a fantastic opportunity for you to invest in a piece of art while making a difference for refugee children. Artists who have graciously contributed their works include Guðjón Ketilsson, Marit Trönqvist, Hallgrímur Helgason, Þrándur Þórarinsson, Tinna Þorvalds, Annadóttir, Baldur Helgason, Þorvaldur Jónsson, Mireja Samper, and many more.

To top off the experience, enjoy the soulful melodies of Ásgeir Trausti and Sigríður Thorlacius, who will be performing for the guests. Don't miss out on this opportunity to experience an inspiring gathering of art, music, and social change!
