City Park's Vital Staircase Reopens After Restoration
A crucial pedestrian staircase in the southern part of the city park has been reopened after restoration work. The staircase, which serves as a central ascent for walkers and joggers, was closed in August due to dilapidation but has now been reopened with improved safety features.
The restoration work involved several concrete steps to enhance slip resistance. The base and top layers of the path and steps were rebuilt with a stable, sand-slaked gravel cover. Additionally, the area around the staircase was slightly profiled to better drain rainwater, ensuring safer use even in wet conditions.
The staircase connects several important areas, including the former river bath, allotment gardens 'Am Eisenweg' and 'Am Hochfeld', and the district of Markersdorf. It provides a vital link for residents and visitors to access the heights from the floodplain forest via the city park slope to the ridgeway. The responsible party for the restoration, the city's own personnel of the Greens Department, has ensured that the staircase is now safe for use once again.
The reopened staircase in the southern city park offers a safer route for pedestrians, with improved slip resistance and better drainage. The restoration work ensures that this crucial link remains accessible for residents and visitors alike.
