USM London Showroom Opens in Marylebone, Offering a Unique Home-Inspired Design
USM, the Swiss furniture company known for its timeless and reliable modular structures, has opened a new showroom in the heart of London's Marylebone. The showroom, designed by multidisciplinary studio ForEveryday.Life, aims to expand USM's reach to the city's residential market.
The new outpost offers a view of USM's modular furniture portfolio, showcasing various uses for their products, including shoe storage, kitchen storage, and plant storage. The showroom is divided into carefully curated zones that simulate a lived-in domestic environment.
Visitors can explore an entryway storage, a living room with an art display, a bar and vinyl listening lounge, a bedroom with modular wardrobes, and a dedicated workspace. Each area is defined by USM’s signature 350x350mm Haller grid system.
Notably, the showroom includes the USM Haller World of Plants and a home theater created in partnership with Leica. The latter features a discreet high-performance projector built into a storage unit, offering an immersive audiovisual experience.
The collaboration with Leica for the home theater is a distinctive partnership that elevates the showroom experience, combining USM’s modular furniture expertise with high-performance audiovisual technology. The Cassina I Maestri collection is also represented in the lower ground floor of the USM London showroom.
In addition, ceramic artist Abid Javed has a debut display in the showroom, adding a touch of contemporary art to the space. The lower ground floor also houses a listening lounge and bar area furnished with Utrecht Armchairs by Gerrit Rietveld.
The mood in the showroom is decidedly intimate, with large expanses of shelving and office-oriented furniture alongside home-like vignettes. The showroom is designed to be a response to and a reflection of USM's modular structures, creating a unique and inviting atmosphere.
USM has traditionally been based in Clerkenwell, but has moved to Marylebone for a more domestic-led environment. The move aligns with a broader cultural interest in office-inspired interiors and mid-century modern design, allowing USM's modular furniture—known for its polished chrome frames and vibrant panels—to gain new relevance in contemporary homes.
Future plans for the USM London showroom include a rotating series of exhibitions of emerging and established creatives. The showroom is located at 12 Cramer Street, London W1U 4DA.
