Complete barricading of the Mill Gate Bridge

Starting Friday, May 12, 2023, at 1 pm, a temporary pedestrian and cyclist bridge will open at the Mühlen Tor Bridge in Lübeck, providing an independent connection between the St. Jürgen district and the city centre. This comes as the Mühlen Tor Bridge itself will be closed for essential maintenance work, commencing on Monday, May 15, at 9 am and lasting for ten days.

The temporary bridge, located at the Mühlen Tor Bridge, spans 80 meters and is 7.50 meters wide, with the southern part dedicated to two-way cyclist traffic, boasting a width of three meters. Meanwhile, the northern part serves as a pedestrian path in both directions, also with a width of three meters.

The closure area includes the road section from the "Mühlen Tor Platz" roundabout to the entrance of Wallstraße. Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are advised to plan alternative routes during this period, as traffic detours will be in place.

The maintenance work on the Mühlen Tor Bridge is related to the operation of the temporary bridge, with essential maintenance work on the road surface planned in this area. This may include structural repairs, surface renewal, or widening, sometimes requiring night or weekend work to minimise disruption.

Typically, such projects involve setting up a temporary pedestrian and cyclist bridge to maintain safe passage during construction. Partial or full closures of the main bridge or adjacent roads may also be necessary, depending on the scope of the maintenance.

For precise details about the maintenance work, road closures, and traffic plans from May 12 to May 24, 2023, it is recommended to refer to local government or Lübeck city transport authority announcements or archives from May 2023.

The temporary bridge will remain open for pedestrian and cyclist traffic throughout the bridge's closure, ensuring continuous passage for residents and visitors in the area. The original traffic plans and bus connections will resume from the evening of May 24, 2023.

The temporary bridge, positioned at the Mühlen Tor Bridge, is not only a solution for cyclists searching for an alternative route during the bridge's maintenance, but also offers a lifestyle-friendly home-and-garden scene for pedestrians, providing a glimpse into the city's green and tranquil home-and-garden vibe. Throughout the maintenance period, this temporary bridge will serve as a connecting point between the St. Jürgen district and the city centre, enhancing the city's overall home-and-garden appeal.
