Crimes Committed in Paderborn 2025: Exploratory Walking Tour

In the picturesque city of Paderborn, Germany, from June 28 to October 5, 2025, a unique event is unfolding. The site-specific public art exhibition, "Tatort Paderborn 2025 - The River is Me" ("Der Fluss bin ich"), is a celebration of the city's shortest river, the Pader, and its central role in the city's identity.

This captivating exhibition invites visitors to view the river not just as a natural element but as an active "citizen" and creative partner in urban life. The goal is to open new ways of understanding the river's ecological, social, historical, and cultural roles within the city.

The event features ten thought-provoking art installations by local and international artists, positioned along the riverbanks. These works highlight the biological diversity and richness of the river and address various intertwined issues.

In addition to the art installations, a rich public program complements the exhibition. This includes guided art walks, bike tours, workshops, and artist talks to engage visitors more deeply with the river’s environment and artistic interpretations.

Among these events, the guided art walks stand out. These tours offer a curated experience that follows the path of the river and explores the installations in a linear and almost chronological route. The tours start very near to the river’s source, symbolically linking the art to the river’s origin and its flow through the city.

The curators of this edition, Marijke Lukowicz and Sophia Trollmann, emphasize the river as a "co-curator" and independent actor within the exhibition's framework.

The guided art walks take place at various locations in Paderborn, including the Paderborn City Museum, which serves as the meeting point for the tours. The cost per person is €8, with a reduced price of €7, and payment is made at the museum cashier. Please note that no round trip is provided for the guided walk tours.

Each tour is led by experienced art mediators and is limited to a maximum of 15 participants. The tours provide insights into the works and their backgrounds, offering a unique and immersive experience for art enthusiasts and locals alike.

The guided art walks are part of a revived series of site-specific exhibitions that began in 2007 and ran through 2014 before this 2025 iteration. For more information and to book your spot, visit the event's website, which is the same as the contact for the Paderborn City Museum.
