Customs Raid in Stralsund Finds 8 Minimum Wage Violations and 11 Illegal Worker Cases

Customs officers in Stralsund have uncovered numerous irregularities in the hotel and catering industry, with 8 cases of suspected minimum wage violations and 11 cases of potential illegal employment of foreign workers. The Main Customs Office Stralsund, led by press spokesperson Sabine Mattil, conducted extensive inspections with 81 deployment forces.

During 113 interviews, customs officers discovered irregularities that warrant further investigation. They also found indications of benefit fraud in 4 cases and suspected evasion of contributions according to § 266a StGB in 11 cases. The inspections aimed to ensure compliance with the legal minimum wage and social security obligations, and to uncover fraudulent receipt of social benefits and illegal employment.

The pay particular attention to combating black work in the industry, which is subject to the regulations of the Minimum Wage Act (MiLoG). In one instance, a participant in a catering establishment in the district of Rostock made personal insults and verbal threats towards the deployment forces.

Following the inspections, extensive follow-up investigations will take place to compare employee data with wage and financial accounting of the companies and check further business records.
