Digital registration option introduced at Bremen city hall: online registration process now available
In a bid to streamline the residence registration process, the city of Bremen has introduced an online service for digital Anmeldung (address registration). Here's a step-by-step guide on how to register your residence online:
- Access the Online Registration Service: Visit Bremen's official service portal, either at www.service.bremen.de or www.wohnsitzanmeldung.de, to start the digital Anmeldung process.
- Fill out the Registration Form: Complete the online application form with your personal details and new address information. This usually requires details like your name, date of birth, previous address, and the new residence address in Bremen.
- Upload Required Documents: You will need to upload digital copies of certain documents such as your valid ID (passport or national ID), Wohnungsgeberbestätigung (confirmation of residence from your landlord or housing provider), and possibly your residence permit if applicable.
- Submit Application: After filling the form and uploading documents, submit your application through the portal.
- Confirmation: You should receive a confirmation via email or through the portal itself that your registration is successful.
- Additional Correspondence: Depending on the procedure, you might receive either a physical confirmation letter by mail or a digital certificate that confirms your registration.
It's important to note that even with the online service, you might need to register vehicles separately or bring vehicle documents to a physical office if relevant. The registration itself does not usually require a fee but vehicle registration does.
The essential documentation for registration includes your ID, proof of housing (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung), and possibly other personal documents like your birth certificate or marriage certificate if applicable.
This new online process is designed to be faster and more convenient than the traditional in-person appointment model, which requires booking slots at the Bürgeramt and can take about 10-15 minutes physically. The online system can be accessed anytime and often includes guidance for each required step.
Since Bremen's official service portal offers eID card applications and other digital services, citizens can use their electronic ID cards to securely log in and confirm their identity during this online registration process.
The online residence registration service in Bremen is a significant advantage for people moving within Bremen, to Bremen, or new residents. Developers are working intensively to enable spouses to be selected in the online service as soon as possible.
For a rental apartment, the landlord's confirmation must be uploaded during the online registration process. Spouses cannot be selected in the online service for moves from Lower Saxony, Brandenburg, and Bavaria. They still need to register separately.
Ulrich Maurer, the Senator for the Interior and Sports, expressed his hope that many people will utilize the online registration to free up capacity in the Citizen's Office. A new address sticker for the physical ID card and/or passport will be sent by post. After checking the data, the Citizen's Office provides a registration confirmation in the user account. The address on the ID can be changed digitally after registration.
To create a user account for the service, visit www.id.bund.de. A personal ID with an online function is required to use the online residence registration service. The online registration can be done without visiting the Citizen's Office and without waiting time.
- Embracing digital advancements in home-and-garden lifestyle, the city of Bremen's online residence registration service enables property renters to upload the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung (confirmation of residence from their landlord or housing provider) during the process.
- In an effort to simplify the lifestyle of new residents, Bremen's online registration service offers a convenient and time-efficient alternative to the traditional in-person appointment model, especially for those moving within or to Bremen, negating the need for physical visits to the Bürgeramt.
