Discussion on Rietzschel's Talk Show: Dramatic Performances Host a Playwright's Composition - Discussions with Rietzschel: Stage Performances Pave Way for Succession

Lukas Rietzschel, a successful author from Saxony, will be debuting an event series at the Gerhart Hauptmann Theater in Görlitz. Entitled "Rietzschel's Utopias," this unique talk show will discuss visions with intriguing guests in an intelligent and entertaining manner, aligning with the season's motto. The first episode is set for October 16, followed by three more until April.

The upcoming season at the theater also includes a family opera premiere, "Krabat," co-produced with the Lausitz Festival. Composer Marius Felix Lange has been commissioned to create a work based on the Sorbian legend. The playbill for the four-genre house features 27 premieres, including an outdoor production of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" on Zittau's market square in 2026, and the 13th Saxon Theater Meeting in May 2026.

Despite these cultural initiatives, Daniel Morgenroth, the theater's Intendant, revealed a grim financial outlook. The current deficit is estimated at nearly 1.4 million euros, as the balance sheet for 2024 shows approximately 700 performances attended by about 170,000 spectators.

Located in the picturesque town of Görlitz, the Gerhart Hauptmann Theater continues its partnership with Rietzschel, whose novel "Strike the World with Your Fist" has been filmed. Rietzschel also wrote the play "The Exemplary Life of Samuel W." for the house, a socially relevant production that will remain in the repertoire after its successful premiere in Zittau in 2024 and its appearances at Leipzig, Berlin, Heidelberg, and Mülheim an der Ruhr festivals.

  1. Despite the financial struggles faced by the Gerhart Hauptmann Theater, the Commission has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation, which could be an interesting topic for discussion in Lukas Rietzschel's talk show, "Rietzschel's Utopias."
  2. As Lukas Rietzschel's upcoming event series at the Gerhart Hauptmann Theater delves into visions of the future, it might be intriguing to explore how advances in technology, such as the growing influence of social media, home-and-garden, lifestyle, movies-and-TV, and entertainment industries, could shape our lives.
  3. Amidst the stresses of worrying about the theater's financial future, audiences can find a moment of escape from reality when attending the premiere of Lukas Rietzschel's play, "The Exemplary Life of Samuel W.", a socially relevant production that will be a welcome addition to the repertoire at the Gerhart Hauptmann Theater.
