Durlach Regains Its Turmberg Once More!
Wake up, Karlsruhe Mates! The 1,000-year-old Turmberg Tower is once again open to the public, and it's high time for some rejoicing, say city officials!
When's the Turkeytime for the Turmberg Tower?
Construction on this historical gem lasted an agonizing three years, leaving resident sightseers longing for its reopening since summer 2022. Now, it's time to step it up and feast your eyes on the stunning vistas once more.
Why the Mega Delay?
Thomas Duek, head of high building and building management with the city of Karlsruhe, broke down the construction conundrum in a chat with our platform: Worn-out sandstone and stringent environmental authority norms conspired to stretch the construction timeline significantly.
Renovations introduce a new look, featuring a revamped platform, plus cushy seats at the renovated Turmberg Tower.
What's the Bottom Line?
Initial plans forecasted a 1.26 million euro budget for the restoration, but hey, stuff doesn't always go as planned! The ultimate construction cost clocked in at 1.3 million euros.
So, When Can I Go Up?
Admission to the Turmberg Tower is gratis, but the schedule varies depending on the season:
- Colder Months (October to March): 9 am to 4 pm
- Warmer Months (April to October): 7 am to 8 pm
Can't Wait to Party
At approximately 3:30 pm, the refreshed outdoor digs of the Turmberg Tower will be unveiled, accompanied by a bubbly reception and tasty nibbles. DJs Vozon, Diva D, and Marlon will serve as the musical maestros for the celebration.
Navigating to the Tower
Since the Turmbergbahn shut down its final ride in February, getting your boots on the ground requires a bit of elbow grease.
Hitting the Road
Driving to the Turmberg is possible via the Bergbahnstraße or the Wolfweg, but be mindful that parking spaces are in short supply.
Using Public Transport & Foot Power
Your mode of transport to the tower might be less crowded (at least on the wallet), but it'll require a huff and a puff to reach the top: Numerous bus and train lines arrive at the "Turmberg" stop in Durlach, but the final stretch to the top has to be covered on foot—perhaps via the Hexenstiege, with its grueling 529 steps, providing an epic route to the tower's summit.
Crossing the threshold of the renovated Turmberg Tower presents an opportunity to embrace an enhanced lifestyle, merging the beauty of outdoor-living with the comfort of home-and-garden aesthetics. As spring unfolds, the revitalized platform beckons residents and tourists alike, inviting them to immerse in breathtaking vistas and revel in the charms of Karlsruhe.
