European Art Displays at Gütersloh Municipal Building in Event "The Art of Europe"
In a remarkable display of artistic solidarity, the city of Gütersloh is hosting an exhibition titled "Art of Europe" from September to October 2025. The contemporary art exhibition, taking place at the city hall forum, brings together artists from partner cities across Europe, including Broxtowe (UK), Châteauroux (FR), Falun (SE), and Grudziądz (PL).
The exhibition kicked off on Tuesday, 2nd September, with renowned artists Nina Edling from Sweden and SOMEART from Poland in attendance. Culture Commissioner Andreas Kimpel had a conversation with both artists, who expressed their support for European unity and the C-City partnership network.
Swedish artist Nina Edling's intricate woodcut and linocut works are inspired by her home region of Falun. Her themes explore the relationship between humans and nature, inner reflection, and the longing for closeness and security. On the other hand, SOMEART, the street artist from Grudziądz, pushes the boundaries of genres with his "Friendly Faces" series. In his works, people of different cultures, professions, and social backgrounds are portrayed in a distinct comic-like style.
French photographer Bruno Dewaele represents the city of Châteauroux with his works, offering viewers a visual treasure hunt through Europe. Meanwhile, Toby Anderton's work "Europe together" is a schematic map of Europe with adjacent countries, expressing the artist's support for Europe and perhaps beyond.
Lesley Grand-Scrutton, Jane Shipton, and Toby Anderton are artists from England featured in the exhibition. The Ensemble Vinorosso provided music for the exhibition opening, adding a harmonious touch to the event.
The art on display includes photography and intricate prints, inviting viewers to shift perspectives and see how art can build bridges of European unity. The artworks aim to represent culture as a bridge for European unity, aligning with the goals of the C-City partnership network.
However, the additional participating artists from the partner cities Broxtowe, Châteauroux, Falun, and Grudziądz in the "Art of Europe" exhibition have not been publicly disclosed. Nonetheless, the exhibition promises to be a vibrant celebration of European culture and unity.
The exhibition is open to the public during the opening hours of Gütersloh City Hall and is part of the city's anniversary celebrations, "200 years of Gütersloh". Don't miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of European art and culture.
