Year-round encounters: perpetual meetings for the dimwitted individuals - Events beyond carnival sprees - folly persistently remains scheduled
Year-round Activities Fill Calendars for Saxony-Anhalt Carnivalists
The Saxony-Anhalt Carnival State Association has revealed a plethora of events and activities keeping carnival enthusiasts busy beyond the traditional festival season. Dirk Vater, the association's president, spoke to the German Press Agency, discussing the manifold year-round engagements in the region.
Carnival events extend well beyond November 11th and Ash Wednesday. Dance sports, ballet championships, and carnivalistic dance championships are regular fixtures in the association's calendar. In early June, coach training takes center stage.
Summer festivals and private events showcase the involvement of club members in various counties. The president expressed a desire to expand the children's dance workshop, particularly in rural areas where carnival clubs often serve as the primary cultural carriers.
A unique offering for next year is the "Carnival Makes Holidays" children's holiday camp, hosted at the youth hostel in Nebra from June 29th to July 5th, 2025. With a circus program for 56 children, the camp celebrates its 15th anniversary by welcoming all registered participants.
The long-standing youth camp takes place at the end of August, offering canoeing, hiking, and disco fun for around 30 young people. This tradition has been maintained for the past six years.
Workshop meetings, such as joke, singing, and club workshops, are ongoing additions to the carnivalists' annual calendar. On average, 25 joke speakers gather for training, sometimes with guest lecturers like cabaret artists from Leipzig. Approximately 45 singers similarly attend annual training sessions with singing instructors focusing on breathing techniques and voice distribution.
In Gommern near Magdeburg, the club workshop revolves around digital media and tax law updates. These meetings are well received, as the association sees itself as a service provider for the clubs. Vater, who has served as president for 14 years, was recently re-elected for another three-year term in November 2024, and currently, 185 clubs are under the association's umbrella.
Carnival activities in Saxony-Anhalt evolve beyond the traditional festival season, with a variety of events and workshops engaging both young and old. As the seasonal festivities approach, local celebrations promise a mixture of cultural heritage, traditional dance, and modern workshops.
- The Saxony-Anhalt Carnival State Association's calendar includes not just traditional festival events, but also regular vocational training workshops for joke speakers, singers, and club members focused on digital media and tax law updates, demonstrating their commitment to community policy and lifestyles that extend beyond home-and-garden activities.
- As part of its community outreach and vocational training initiatives, the Saxony-Anhalt Carnival State Association plans to expand its children's dance workshop, focusing on rural areas where they can serve as primary cultural carriers, and is hosting a carnivalistic children's holiday camp, "Carnival Makes Holidays," from June 29th to July 5th, 2025, where home-and-garden lifestyle takes a backseat to carnivalistic fun and vocational training.
