First M. F. Husain Museum Opens in Doha Next Month

A new museum dedicated to renowned Indian artist M. F. Husain will open in Doha, Qatar next month. The museum, Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum, will be the first of its kind, providing a comprehensive overview of Husain's artistic career.

Located in Doha's Education City, developed by the Qatar Foundation, the museum will draw from a newly formed permanent collection. It will showcase Husain's work from his rise in the 1950s until his death in 2011. The building's design is based on a 2008 sketch by the artist himself.

Husain's work has been featured in prestigious international exhibitions like the Venice Biennale and the Bienal de São Paulo. His painting 'Untitled (Gram Yatra)' sold for $13.8 million at Christie's New York in March 2023, highlighting his global recognition.

The Qatar Foundation, which operates the museum, is a separate entity from Qatar Museums and focuses on education, scientific research, and community-building. The museum promises to be a significant cultural addition to Doha, offering visitors a deep dive into the life and work of this influential artist.
