Halle Launches Own Maintenance Yard, Boosting School Renovations and Sustainability
The city of Halle has launched its own maintenance yard, fully operational since July 2023. The yard, staffed with a team of eight craftsmen, has been busy with various projects, including school renovations and maintenance. The team consists of carpenters, painters, metalworkers, construction workers, and electricians, along with an electrical engineering apprentice.
The maintenance yard has tackled painting and carpentry work at several primary schools, including Grundschule Büschdorf and Grundschule Kanena/Reideburg. The team's expertise extends beyond basic maintenance, handling tasks such as roofing work, exhibition setup, and lantern festival assembly. Sustainability is a key focus, with the team repurposing an old emergency service vehicle and reactivating a carpentry workshop.
The city has equipped the technical service with three cargo bikes to facilitate quick and eco-friendly responses to maintenance needs. The yard also boasts a 'quick response team' for small repairs and maintenance. Further projects are in the pipeline, with a new apprentice position advertised for next year.
In its first few months, the maintenance yard has proven valuable, particularly in school renovations and maintenance. While the leadership of the service centers for facility management in Halle remains unclear, the city's investment in its own maintenance yard is expected to continue improving the city's infrastructure and facilities.
