High-end perfume brand Guerlain finishes their limited-edition creation with Quadpack's wooden closure system.
Sustainable Packaging Trends in the Beauty Industry
The beauty industry is embracing sustainability, and some major brands are leading the charge. Let's take a look at some recent developments in this area.
Guerlain, the renowned French perfume house, has partnered with Quadpack to introduce a wooden cap for its limited-edition Habit Rouge Spirit fragrance. This collaboration aims to decrease the pack design's plastic content and streamline its recyclability. The wooden cap, named Woodacity Hidden, is made using ash from sustainably managed forests and manufactured at Quadpack's low emission production plant in Catalonia, Spain. The cap's two-part structure is held together by a water-based and biodegradable glue, and it is expected to reflect the deep, woody notes of the amber fragrance itself.
Meanwhile, L'Oreal Group's Ralph Lauren Fragrances brand has also been making strides in sustainability. Their Polo Earth vegan fragrance is packaged in a refillable bottle featuring 20% post-consumer recycled glass, a 55% post-consumer recycled carton, and a wood cap. This packaging choice was not only intended to reduce plastic use but also to contribute towards the brand's wider sustainability targets. The Ralph Lauren Fragrances pack was 30% lighter than conventional bottles.
Quadpack has been at the forefront of this shift, having completed its Woodacity range of full-wood, plastic-free closures in August 2023. This range is a significant step towards reducing the industry's reliance on virgin, fossil-based plastics, and introducing recycled or bio-sourced materials for new products.
Hei Poa, a French suncare brand, has also joined the movement. In collaboration with Quadpack, they have unveiled a 15g Infinite Panstick pack, which is made from mono-polypropylene and 50% post-consumer recycled material. This pack is part of a series of sustainable packaging initiatives in the personal care and cosmetics industries.
These developments highlight a growing trend towards sustainable packaging in the beauty industry. As consumers become more environmentally conscious, it is essential for brands to adapt and find ways to reduce their environmental impact. With initiatives like these, it seems that the future of beauty packaging is looking greener.
