Historic Hanseatic district's renowned store re-emerges!

Chilling Comeback of Leysieffer

The sweet treat purveyor, Leysieffer, has experienced a turbulent past, with three insolvencies in five years. But this Osnabrück-born company, established in 1909, has managed to rise from the rubble yet again, settling back into the heart of Hanseviertel.

After the bitter taste of insolvency in 2024, the company was saved by none other than its former CEO, Jan Leysieffer, who had departed in 2020. In December of the same year, the revamped store, now bearing the name 'Jan Leysieffer', made its grand entrance into the Hanseviertel. Following the bustling holiday season, the shop temporarily closed for renovations.

Welcome Back, Leysieffer!

Now, the charming aroma of handcrafted pralines, truffles, spreads, and chocolate bars envelops the Hanseviertel once again. For close to 45 years, the Leysieffer name has been a cherished part of this vibrant district.

Thrilled to be back in the heart of Hamburg, Jan Leysieffer, managing director of the family business, shared his sentiments, "Hanseviertel and Leysieffer - they just belong together. Our exquisite chocolates and mouthwatering pralines find a discerning audience here that values quality, craftsmanship, and indulgence."

Unlike the usual sweetness of Leysieffer's confections, the journey of the company has been bittersweet, displaying the resilience of enduring tradition in the face of adversity. The chocolate connoisseur continues to trudge forward, captivating the taste buds of Hamburg's elite with every creation.

In the Hanseviertel's illustrious heart, Leysieffer's revitalized home-and-garden shop, now named 'Jan Leysieffer', emerges with an array of lifestyle products that charm the district. During the holiday-induced bustle, the store continued to undergo enhancements, readying itself to enthrall customers with its enchanting spread of pralines, truffles, and more. Meanwhile, as footfall in Hanseviertel's pedestrian zone dwindles, there is a question lingering: whether landlords' exorbitant rents could be the reason for the eerie emptiness.
