Home Security Measures Activated and Advised for Holidays; SSC Takes Steps to Deter Home Burglaries in Mexico City

The Department of Civil Security (SSC) has initiated Operation Summer 2025, a significant operation involving over 14,600 personnel, including forces from the Metropolitan Police, sectorial police, the Bank and Industrial Police (PBI), the Auxiliary Police (PA), and the Subsecretariat of Traffic Control. Among this extensive force, Operation Summer 2025 boasts 1,069 vehicles, 35 motorcycles, 10 motor ambulances, five cranes, and one helicopter from the Condors unit.

The operation aims to protect homes while residents are away during the summer vacation. The SSC has issued recommendations for city residents to follow, which include securing doors and windows, reinforcing hinges, locks, and doors or entryways, and installing alarm systems or smart security systems for real-time monitoring.

Residents are advised to avoid posting information about upcoming trips or departures on social media to prevent potential intruders from knowing when their homes will be vacant. Valuable items should not be left in the courtyard, and lights should not be left on, either on the porch or inside the house. Easily accessible windows should be protected.

Other general measures often recommended for securing homes include motion-sensitive lighting around the perimeter of the home to deter intruders, asking trusted neighbors to keep an eye on the residence, and using timers to turn lights on and off to create the illusion of occupancy.
