Firing Up the Fun in Wuppertal
The excitement ignited at the fire station at high noon. Around 200 enthusiastic souls took to the streets, embarking on a colorful parade that led them through Schwelmer Street, Langerfelder Market, Wilhelm-Hedtmann Street, Henkels Street, Windhorst Street, Insel Street, and ending at Timpen.
This lively procession was graced by historical vehicles, such as a carriage reminiscent of 1895, the friendly volunteer fire department from Horb am Neckar, and the partner fire department from Mittenwalde in Brandenburg. The party didn't stop there; the Technical Relief Agency (THW), the volunteer fire department Leverkusen-Wiesdorf, and the Axalta plant fire department with their extraordinary fire truck joined the fun, not to mention the "Wupper District Pipe Band" adding rhythm to the parade. Following the march, a grand open day event boomed on the grounds of the Timpen fire station. Entertainment for kids, mouthwatering cuisine, and groovy tunes by the brass band and the "Big Band Hedtberg Brass" of the CVJM Langerfeld, and the band "Roadhouse" kept the spirits high.
As the official ceremony unfolded on Saturday, District Fire Chief Marco Braunheim stepped forward to present a well-deserved certificate on behalf of NRW Interior Minister Herbert Reul, appreciating the remarkable work on site. Wuppertal's Fire Chief Andreas Steinhard emphasized the crucial role of the Langerfeld unit in safeguarding the eastern population. Mayor Uwe Schneidewind and City Director Matthias Nocke also shared their thoughts, with District Mayor Andreas Bialas presiding over the event.
Fire Station Leader Karl Gruenewald, who has maintained his position for an impressive 19 years, shared a light-hearted and emotional speech. His heartfelt appreciation extended to countless colleagues, whose dedicated support, particularly that of the dedicated group around Carsten Schlabach, was crucial in making it all possible.
