The Braunschweigische Louis Spohr-Gesellschaft, a non-profit organisation, was established on April 5, 2011, with a mission to promote the memory of the renowned composer, violinist, and conductor, Louis Spohr. The society was founded at the Louis-Spohr-Saal of the Staatstheater Braunschweig.

The society's inception was a natural progression from the "Initiative Louis Spohr" founded in 2002 by Hilde Kramm-Walter and Helmut Kruse. Six founding members, including Matthias Stanze, Ilka Schibilak, Elke Posnien, Dr. Annette Boldt-Stülzebach, Gerd Voigt, and Martin Weller, joined forces to carry forward this mission. Friedrich Theodor Kohl was appointed as the honorary president of the society.

Matthias Stanze was elected as the first president of the Braunschweigische Louis Spohr-Gesellschaft. Elke Posnien serves as the treasurer, and Ilka Schibilak is the vice president. The society also boasts board members at large in Dr. Annette Boldt-Stülzebach, Gerd Voigt, and Martin Weller.

The society seeks to establish close cooperation with other institutions dedicated to Spohr, such as the International Louis Spohr Society in Kassel, the Staatstheater Braunschweig, the Louis Spohr Music Forum, or the Louis Spohr Music Center of the city of Braunschweig. Potential partner institutions also include the State Archive Wolfenbüttel and the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum in Braunschweig.

The society's activities focus on societal education and the development and support of mediation models in music culture, especially in the field of new music. The Braunschweigische Louis Spohr-Gesellschaft aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Spohr's work and its significance in the context of music history.

For more information or to get in touch with the society, you can reach them at their contact phone numbers: 0531 330035 and 0531 470 4820, or via email at lsm@unsere Website.de. Matthias Stanze, the president of the society, can be reached at [email protected].

The Braunschweigische Louis Spohr-Gesellschaft continues to strive towards its goal of preserving and celebrating the legacy of Louis Spohr, contributing significantly to the rich cultural landscape of Braunschweig.
