Sprucing Up Bensberg: The IAC Bensberg Evolution

The revitalization of Bensberg, spearheaded by the Integrated Action Concept (IAC), marches on. As the Schlossstraße redevelopment nears its final stretch, with a projected completion by year's end 2025, additional IAC components were unveiled last Thursday. The First Deputy Mayor Ragnar Migenda and the head of department 6, Dr. Marc Höhmann, officially launched the renovated rooftop garden on the Schlossberg garage and the newly constructed Emilien fountain.

The Schlossberg garage's rooftop oasis, once revamped, boasts modern furnishings, an array of climate-resilient perennials, and revamped flooring. A new access point was also added to this reimagined green haven, in the heart of Schlossstraße and Kadettenstraße intersection. The project, led by the Urban Greenery department, was completed in a swift eight weeks.

The area surrounding the Emilien fountain, a component of the Schlossstraße's revamp, now presents a fresh look. A serene pedestrian path and gentle steps lead to Bensberg Castle, with a children's play area, a new tree, and fresh seating inviting visitors to linger at the refurbished historic fountain. In time, a commemorative plaque, gifted by the Bergisches Historical Association Rhein-Berg e.V., will be installed, reminding us of Emilie Schmitz's generosity.

In emphasizing the significance of the IAC Bensberg, First Deputy Mayor Ragnar Migenda asserted, "The IAC is a game-changer, significantly increasing district appeal and fostering future-oriented development for the economy and society." On the day of urban development promotion, Dr. Marc Höhmann added, "By inaugurating these projects, the city once more demonstrates the IAC's highest quality of living. The newly revamped Schlossstraße is already attracting trade, commerce, and the urban community. The fresh additions further unlock the area's potential."

The official unveiling of the renovated rooftop garden and the Emilien fountain took place during the Day of Urban Development Promotion 2025. The federal, state, and municipal urban development promotion, along with the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building and the Ministry of Home Affairs, Communities, Building and Digitalization of North Rhine-Westphalia, have kindly extended their support.
