Klaus Speth receives a bank award at Roncalli Square
Delrath Resident Klaus Speth Honoured for Playground Dedication
Klaus Speth, a resident of Delrath, has been recognised for his long-standing commitment to the playground at Roncalli Square. On September 5th, a plaque was attached to a bench near the climbing frame, honouring Speth as 'Playground Grandpa' and an exemplary neighbour.
Speth's dedication to the playground dates back to 2014, when he became an official area sponsor. Since then, he has been passionately maintaining order, cleanliness, and upkeep on the playground, making it a place where children can play carefree and families feel at home.
In 2015, Speth took on the playground's renovation, and since then, he has been committed to its continuous improvement. His dedication did not go unnoticed, as the city administration took up the suggestion of citizens to acknowledge his commitment.
Speth's involvement extends beyond the playground. In 2017, he took on the sponsorship of a dog waste bag station, making him the only 'triple sponsor' in the city area. His efforts were also recognised by SPAX, who officially sponsored him in 2014 and were involved in the playground's maintenance.
Mayor Erik Lierenfeld thanked Speth for his decades of commitment during a small celebration. Rene Ubber, the initiator, and neighbouring residents were present at the celebration, which was held under a tree in Roncalli Square, between Balgheimer Street and Kurt-Schumacher Street.
The plaque, which bears the inscription "In recognition of Klaus Speth 'Playground Grandpa' and exemplary dedicated neighbour," was attached to a bench where Speth and his wife, Maria Luise Speth, often sit. Speth's commitment is highly valued throughout Dormagen, and he is more than just a neighbour to many at Roncalli Square - he is a role model.
Speth was also awarded the Golden Coin of the city administration in 2023 for his commitment, further acknowledging his dedication to the playground and the community.
