Launch of 'Notagallery' in a heritage building, planned on a temporary basis
In the heart of Berlin, at Friedrichstraße 210, a listed building steeped in history now serves as a temporary exhibition space for contemporary art. The "Notagallery Art Embassy" opened its doors on September 12, 2025, marking a significant cultural milestone in the city.
The building, part of a complex defining the intersection of Friedrichstraße and Kochstraße, is a testament to early 20th-century architecture, much like its neighbour, Friedrichstraße 209, which houses the protected monument, the former Hotel Pariser Hof.
Previously unused, the space at Friedrichstraße 210 has been transformed into a platform for dialogue and trust, aiming to open networks and make the art scene accessible to new impulses. The artworks on display range from paintings and sculptures to textile works, offering a diverse and engaging experience for visitors.
The interim use of Friedrichstraße 210 is made possible by the company ehret+klein, which took over the property in 2024. Ivan Gette, founder and gallerist, emphasized the unequal opportunities for young artists and the importance of providing a space for their work.
The exhibition concept at Friedrichstraße 210 avoids a central theme, focusing instead on diversity, opposites, and exchange. This approach encourages dialogue and understanding, reflecting the spirit of Checkpoint Charlie, a symbol for Berlin's history and engagement with the past and present.
The immediate surroundings of Checkpoint Charlie have been somewhat neglected, but the cultural interim use of Friedrichstraße 210 could impact the development of the surrounding area. The renovation and revitalization measures for the long-term perspective of Friedrichstraße 210 might include hotel or gastronomy concepts, ensuring the building's continued relevance in the city's landscape.
However, the historical facade of Friedrichstraße 210 is to be preserved in any renovation or revitalization plans, maintaining a connection to the building's rich history. ehret+klein views interim uses as a fixed component of many projects, providing concrete impulses for further development.
As the Notagallery Art Embassy continues to evolve, it promises to be a vibrant and dynamic addition to Berlin's cultural scene, offering a unique blend of history and contemporary art.
