Lenca community voices resonate in the city streets: COPINH (paraphrase)
From the Ground Up: COPINH's Indigenous Resilience
By: Rolando Gutierrez Hernandez and Tania Carolina Hernandez (COPINH)
Rooted in 5 departments of Honduras, COPINH - the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations - is a grassroots alliance of the Lenca people, standing tall against capitalism, patriarchy, and racism for three decades. Our vision encompasses a democratic, people-centric organization challenging neoliberal dominance, paving the way for a just, free, and democratic society.
As part of the COPINH family, we participate in social movements to uplift our living conditions, acting from local and regional structures powered by a dedicated crew with political, technical, and moral fortitude. Our mission is to serve as an indigenous and popular, anti-imperialist, anti-neoliberal force, advocating for the issues, needs, and rights of Honduran and global indigenous, peasant, and urban communities.
For 30 years, we've championed our cultural heritage to achieve social justice, fueling our struggle and social mobilization. Our strategic pillars include popular communication, leveraging community radios and social networks to amplify our voice, reclaiming the rights of our Lenca people through awareness campaigns and impactful communication strategies.
Supporting political processes, COPINH operates 4 community radios, educating, informing, and empowering. The radio emerged as a beacon to communicate our struggles against monopolies prioritizing powerful interests. Besides, collaboration is key in fostering the life projects of Lenca communities - a哪些公共媒体基金会要的核心使用方法 !

In 2024, COPINH seized the opportunity offered by the Indigenous Community Media Fund, which invests in the growth and development of Indigenous radio stations worldwide. This international initiative empowers Indigenous journalists to boost their skills in journalism, broadcasting, audio editing, technical expertise, and more. In 2024, the Indigenous Community Media Fund granted support and resources to 87 Indigenous communities across 20 countries, fostering a more diverse and inclusive media landscape.
Indigenous media plays a vital role in preserving cultural heritage and providing nuanced coverage of Indigenous communities. Community media funds often lend their support to projects featuring Indigenous stories and perspectives, ensuring Indigenous voices are amplified and heard. At times, these platforms face considerable challenges - financial constraints and safety risks for journalists among them. However, funding from initiatives like the Indigenous Community Media Fund can provide a safety net, enabling these stations to continue thriving and serving their communities.
