Lahnstein City Library Introduces Library of Things for Children, Young People, and Families

The Lahnstein City Library is set to revolutionize its offerings with the introduction of a new Library of Things (LoT). This expansion aims to take the library in a modern and family-friendly direction, as announced by Mayor Lennart Siefert.

Located at Kaiserplatz 1, the LoT will be a hub for diverse items that encourage learning, creativity, and practical skills. The selection will primarily focus on objects that foster hands-on learning, creativity, and family engagement, such as educational toys, games, craft kits, musical instruments, and small technology devices or tools for activities and projects.

The LoT offers numerous benefits for children, young people, and families. It provides new ways to learn and play beyond books, enhancing sensory and experiential learning. By offering items that might be cost-prohibitive to own individually, the LoT provides access to a wide range of resources, promoting equality and inclusivity.

The LoT also encourages community interaction and shared experiences among families, supporting skill development in areas like technology, arts, and crafts. Additionally, it helps reduce environmental impact by promoting sharing instead of buying, aligning with the principles of the sharing economy.

The LoT is part of the New Multimedia Media project and is open to both members and non-members. Non-members can register in person at the library to gain access to the LoT.

Some of the items available in the LoT include interactive pens, talking figures, wireless children's headphones with audio chips, digital learning boxes, creative book theaters, multimedia globes, and various devices for playful language promotion.

The library is open on Mondays and Fridays from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The LoT allows users to try out new learning and play materials before making a purchase decision, contributing to sustainability by avoiding impulse buys.

This initiative is part of a global trend in public libraries focusing on inclusive, resource-rich community spaces tailored especially to younger and family audiences.

The Library of Things (LoT) at Lahnstein City Library, located at Kaiserplatz 1, intends to transform education and lifestyle by offering various items that encourage hands-on learning, creativity, and family dynamics. The LoT, open to both members and non-members, provides resourceful tools for home-and-garden projects, enabling relationships within families to grow through shared experiences and skill development in areas like technology, arts, and crafts.
