In a heartwarming display of solidarity, communities in Germany and Ukraine are coming together to bring light and warmth to those in need. The initiative, known as "Warmth through Candle Stubs", sees two boxes always ready in front of the community house for people to place their used candle stubs.

The Lutherkirchen-Bauverein members are urging the community to participate, encouraging people to bring their candle stubs to the Lutherkirche instead of disposing of them. The collected candle stubs amount to an impressive 3 tons of candle wax, which is then transported to numerous workshops throughout Ukraine.

In these workshops, women are melting the wax to create large tin candles. These candles are not only a source of light but also serve as heat sources and even cooking fuel in crisis zones such as Ukraine. The production of these candles provides a valuable distraction from the daily horrors of the war for these women.

The Solingen population has shown active helpfulness, repeatedly, with the "Dobre e.V." association picking up the candle stubs at collection points in the Rhineland. Since Easter 2024, the Lutherkirchen-Gemeinde has collected 126 boxes of candle stubs, which have been transported by truck to two collection points in Kyiv and Odessa in Ukraine.

Notably, the large tin candles are not only distributed in cities and villages but also to soldiers at the front and even to the trenches. Recently, Hansjoerg Schweikart and Joerg Rennert from the Lutherkirchen-Gemeinde handed over 16 boxes of collected candle stubs to Mr. Link from the "Dobre e.V." association, Rhineland Ukraine Aid.

The "Dobre e.V." association, based in Rhineland Ukraine Aid, is at the forefront of this initiative, ensuring that the collected candle stubs are used effectively to bring aid to those in need. This commendable effort underscores the power of community action in making a difference in the lives of others.
