Marsh Pond Gathering: NDR Host Yared Dibaba Wagers on Event

Marmstorf Pond Bet Returning for 23rd Edition

Marmstorf, Germany - The annual Marmstorf Pond Bet is set to return for its 23rd edition on Sunday, January 26th. This unique tradition sees the Marmstorf Shooting King and a notable guest attempting to meet dry-footed on the Marmstorf Fire Pond.

Last year, the event drew a record crowd of approximately 3450 spectators. The main attraction was King Jochen Meyer and newsreader Jens Riewa, who made a splash in the pond's center.

This year, Low German will likely be heard at the Marmstorf Pond Bet due to the prominent guest of honor, NDR moderator Yared Dibaba. He will be facing off against the Marmstorf Shooting King, Michael Pahlke.

The festivities around the Fire Pond begin at 11 am. Participants aim to reach the pond's middle without getting wet. In past years, self-built rafts, cableways, hot air balloons, and cranes have been used to attempt this feats. Notable past competitors include Lotto King Karl, Senator Melanie Leonhard, TV chef Rainer Sass, and actress Sandra Keck.

The entry fee for the bet is €250 per participant. As the wager has ended in a draw in recent years, the proceeds will be donated. Funds raised from the sale of food and drinks will also go towards charitable causes.

As usual, the event will be hosted by moderators Johannes "Jojo" Tapken and Jan Stahl, who will document the day's events, share stories with volunteers from the Marmstorf Volunteer Fire Department and Diving Group, and continue the Marmstorf Playground Marching Band's musical tradition. The Drumming Group of Grün-Weiss Harburg will also be in attendance.

The success of the Marmstorf Pond Bet hinges largely on favorable weather conditions. Here's hoping for sunshine and clear skies.

Other attendees may find enjoyment in the home-and-garden section of the event, where they can explore various outdoor-living ideas and exhibits. Additionally, spectators can look forward to a peaceful stroll around the picturesque Marmstorf Pond during their other leisure time.
