Düsseldorf is set to unveil a new youth traffic school, scheduled for completion in October 2022. The school, located at Rather Broich 13, has been in operation since 1985 under the Traffic Management Office, in cooperation with several organizations.
The new building, estimated to cost around 4.5 million euros, will boast an attractive offer for young people in traffic education. It will feature a spacious hall with a stage and a fixed projector, allowing for interactive lessons and practical training. The hall will also accommodate a puppet stage, adding a creative element to the educational programme.
The new building will also cater to cyclists and moped riders, with parking facilities for 20 mopeds and 40 bicycles. These spaces will be equipped with charging stations for electric mopeds, e-bikes, and a car. A workshop run by Future Workshop Düsseldorf will be available for moped and bicycle repairs.
In line with an ecological approach, the outdoor facilities will prioritise bicycle parking spaces and allow for rainwater infiltration. The planned shrubs are designed to bloom profusely and attract insects, while additional plantings will provide screening, shade, and air exchange.
The current accommodation, a temporary solution, will be replaced, with the new building positioned closer to the access at Rather Broich for easier access to the traffic school. A replacement area will be provided for the members of the BürgerSchützenVerein Rath to compensate for the loss of various huts of the shooters on the construction site, aiming to strengthen the location of the Rather Shooting Club.
The new building will also house a rainwater retention basin with significant storage volume, necessary due to wastewater discharge limitations. Moreover, a photovoltaic system for self-supply is planned for the new building.
