Mattel's 2025 Dia de Muertos Barbie Dolls Unveiled
Mattel, the renowned toy company, has once again released a pair of special edition Barbie and Ken dolls to celebrate Día de Muertos. These collectible items, designed by doll artist Ari Sarinana, are a testament to the cultural importance of the Mexican holiday.
In 2023, Barbie dons a dazzling pink gown with a ruffled neckline and flared hem. The dress features a sugar skull and flower design down the front, and her headpiece is adorned with butterflies. Ken, on the other hand, sports a bold blue jacket and a hat with a sugar skull band. His white trim on the pants is meant to mimic bone, and his calavera face paint complements the stitching on his jacket. The 2023 Dia de Muertos Barbie also comes with a miniature ofrenda diorama, complete with dancing skeletons.
The following year, in 2024, the theme continues with the 2024 Dia de Muertos Barbie wearing a satiny black dress with a blue, ruffled bodice and a pink ribbon belt. Her headpiece resembles marigold flowers, and the gown has a sugar skull motif on the front. Ken, dressed in a black charro suit with gold trim and cempasuachil flowers, sports traditional calavera face paint.
The 2025 Dia de Muertos Barbie is dressed in a cream-colored gown with a marigold flower motif. Her makeup is done in the sugar skull-style, and she has stunning jewelry and a headpiece. Ken, in his 2025 outfit, wears a silvery striped shirt and black boots. His look is completed with a charro suit that has gold trim and cempasuachil flowers.
Each year, these Día de Muertos Barbie and Ken dolls are created to pay homage to the colors, traditions, and symbols of the holiday. As collector items, they come with stands for display. These unique dolls are a wonderful way to celebrate and educate about the rich cultural heritage of Día de Muertos.
