McDonald's, Takara Tomy, and Toyota joining forces to bring delight to kids with a gleaming partnership
Toyota, McDonald's, and Takara Tomy Join Forces to Bring Joy to Children
In an exciting collaboration, Toyota, McDonald's, and Takara Tomy have teamed up to bring joy to children across Japan. The partnership, which marks the 10th year of Tomica toy cars in McDonald's Happy Meals, is centred around the GR Corolla model as part of the "Special Combined Robot Job Labor" series.
The collaboration, which runs nationwide in July, features transforming working vehicle toys from Takara Tomy's Tomica brand. These toys represent various Toyota and McDonald's vehicles that become robot Job Labor characters. This is the first time that actual toys—not just stickers—are included in the Happy Sets.
The first wave of the promotion, which ended on May 10, included the golden GR Corolla Tomica toy car. From May 10, toy cars from both the first and second rounds will be available in Happy Meals. The second wave, from July 18–24, includes Toyota-related toys such as the "MediBraver Toyota Himedic Ambulance" and the "CleanBraver Toyota Dyna Cleaning Truck," along with a McDonald's delivery truck toy with a robot motif.
McDonald's Japan has also held a related campaign offering prizes such as tickets to an ANA aircraft hangar tour, encouraging social media engagement via specific hashtags. The Tomica Happy Meal collaboration is part of the 55th anniversary celebration of Tomica, as noted by Takara Tomy, with the GR Corolla model integrated into this event as a special miniature car released in connection with Toyota Gazoo Racing.
The partnership aims to create smiles for children, as highlighted by Toyota Times. A video featuring Akio Toyoda, Chairman of Toyota, holding a golden GR Corolla Tomica toy and expressing joy upon receiving it, has generated significant buzz. The campaign's TV commercial features a child playing with toy cars, with the actions reflected by the real vehicles and 1,000 synchronized drones.
WRC champion Kalle Rovanperä and drift driver Ken Gushi are seen driving the gold GR Corolla and the gold GR 86 in the campaign's TV commercial. An actual gold GR Corolla and a gold GR 86 were displayed at a McDonald's location in Tokyo.
This unique initiative combines toys, automobiles, and fast food, with events and giveaways linked to both the promotion and broader Toyota commitments to mobility and innovation in society. So, grab your Happy Meal and enjoy the transforming Tomica toy cars!
