Modified Rules Implemented in the Local Library

In a recent update, the City of Liberty's library has announced changes to its fees and charges for members, effective as of July 8, 2025. The revised policy aims to make certain media items more accessible while maintaining a system that covers costs associated with library services and encourages timely returns.

One of the notable changes is the elimination of additional charges for DVDs, bestsellers, computer games, and CDs. This move is part of an effort to make services more accessible to a wider audience, according to library officials.

Replacement library cards will now cost €5.00 for adults and €10.00 for children. Late fees for medium-term overdue items have been increased to €1.00 per week, while lost library cards will incur a replacement fee of €5.00 for children and €10.00 for adults.

Late fees for various items are as follows: books, periodicals, cassettes, and CDs will incur a fee of €0.10 per day; videos, DVDs, reference books will attract a €1.00 daily fee; opaque and overhead projectors will cost €5.00 per day; and multi-media projector use for organizations is €20.00, while businesses will pay €50.00 per day.

Replacing a lost or damaged book or item will incur the cost of the item, accrued fines, and a 10% late fee. Damaged video cases will cost €1.00 to replace. Interlibrary loan fees will cover the cost of postage to return materials.

Other minor fees include €0.15 per page for black & white photocopies and €0.50 per page for color photocopies. Replacing barcodes on books will cost €0.25.

It is important to note that the library's hours of operation, location, and other services may not have been affected by these changes. Membership requirements, such as proof of residency or age, may still apply.

The library's budget for the fiscal year may have been adjusted to accommodate these changes. However, the exact details of this adjustment are not yet clear.

For those who attend school, college, or are in training, there is no annual library fee for individuals aged 18 or older.

These changes reflect a shift in the library's approach to fees and charges, aiming to provide more accessibility while maintaining a sustainable system. For more information, visit the City of Liberty's library website or contact the library directly.
