The Campus-Kino film series returns to Berlin-Lichtenberg this August, transforming the courtyard of the Stasi Headquarters, now known as the "Campus for Democracy," into an open-air cinema. Running from Monday, 4 August to Thursday, 28 August 2025, the event promises an evening of film screenings every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, starting at 7:30 p.m. and admission is free.

This year's theme focuses on films with political depth, East-West references, and contemporary social relevance, reflecting the site's historic significance. The program includes a mix of feature films, documentaries, and discussions, providing audiences with a unique blend of history, politics, and current cultural zeitgeist.

The series kicks off on 4 August with the feature film 'Zuckersand', a poignant tale of two friends in the GDR. Following the screening, author and contemporary witness Anne Hahn will be a guest. For a family-friendly option, there is a children's film program featuring screenings like the feature film 'Young Hearts' on 25 August at 4:00 p.m.

After each screening, guests from the worlds of science and culture, as well as contemporary witnesses, will be available for discussions. The event offers an atmospheric experience with snacks, deck chairs, and opportunities for post-film conversations. You are welcome to bring your own blanket and picnic basket.

The complete program and further information for the Campus Cinema are available online at www.bundesarchiv.de/campus-kino. The event takes place at the Stasi Headquarters, Campus for Democracy, Normannenstraße 21, 10365 Berlin.

Berlin writer Katja Lange-Müller and others will be guests on stage for various screenings. The film series will be embedded in a comprehensive supporting programme, including brief insights into thematically tailored archive material before each film. Exhibitions, guided tours, and information offerings will be available around the Campus for Democracy.

On 5 August, the documentary film 'Guten Morgen, ihr Schönen' will be screened, portraying women from the GDR. Every Monday, there is a family program in cooperation with the MACHmit! Museum for Children, featuring children's films and craft activities.

Alexandra Titze, Frank Ebert, and Rebecca Hernandez Garcia will be representatives on the podium for the organising institutions. Deck chairs are available at the Campus Cinema. We look forward to welcoming you to this summer's political cinema experience at the Stasi Headquarters.

  1. In addition to the political films and discussions, the Campus-Kino film series also offers an alternative lifestyle experience, inviting attendees to enjoy outdoor-living by bringing their own blankets and picnic baskets for a pleasant evening under the stars.
  2. In a unique blend of home-and-garden activities and historical education, the Campus for Democracy is hosting exhibitions, guided tours, and information offerings during the Campus Cinema event, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the site's past and contemporary relevance.
