Neuss Embraces Sustainability Week Celebration

Neuss, Germany - The city of Neuss is set to host its annual Week of Sustainability from July 4th to July 11th. This week-long event, organised by the environmental and climate office, adult education centre Neuss, Neuss agenda 21 e.V., Transition Town Neuss, and various local actors, aims to inform, engage, and inspire residents to set impulses for sustainable urban development.

The event kicks off on Saturday, July 5th, with a ceremonial start on the market square in front of the town hall and the Freithof. Over 30 stands will present creative ideas, sustainable products, and local initiatives, while visitors are encouraged to learn about sustainability projects in Neuss and engage in conversation with those involved. A highlight of the day is the large bicycle exchange of the Janusz Korczak comprehensive school.

The week's activities include an action day for democracy at the RomaNEum on July 4th, where participants can rediscover democratic fundamentals with practical exercises like the "Democracy Fitness Training." On July 7th, an online lecture on "Sustainable investing - ecological, social, and ethical finances" will be held.

On July 9th, a public lecture on Neuss's sustainability strategy will take place, followed by an exhibition in the town hall showcasing the city's sustainability strategy, which outlines specific measures for implementing the 17 global sustainability goals at the local level.

The Hitch Cinema will screen the documentary "Holy Shit" at 7 pm on July 11th, following a guided bike tour of farms in and around Neuss, approximately 25 kilometers long. The documentary explores the possibility that what we consider waste might actually be a valuable resource. A discussion with an expert from Cologne, planning the first public dry toilet in Germany, will follow the documentary.

All Neuss residents are invited to participate in discussions and work together during the Week of Sustainability. For the complete program and further information, visit www.neussnachhaltig.de.
