In the city of Neuwied, Germany, the "Strong Neighbors" project, a collaborative effort between EIRENE and Diakonie, is set to receive a significant boost with the approval of a 25,000 euro funding grant from the city. This funding, to be disbursed from July 2025 to December 2027, aims to further develop the project's successful model and expand its offerings.

The project, which promotes social and professional integration of third-country nationals, and strengthens ecological awareness, has been making strides since its introduction in 2017. It has trained numerous volunteers who significantly contribute to Neuwied's cohesion.

Project leaders Ali Al Nasani and Iyad Asfour have been discussing the project's achievements and planned priorities with the Social Committee members. The focus remains on training language and conflict mediators, who act as multipliers in society, and integrating ecological topics to promote climate protection awareness.

The expansion of the project includes workshops on non-violent conflict resolution, individual consultations, and mediation of volunteer work and internships. The next phase will also include a structured program for internships and voluntary services.

Mayor Peter Jung stated that EIRENE and Diakonie's engagement contributes significantly to peaceful and integrative coexistence in Neuwied. He added that the city's support is a further indication of Neuwied's commitment to promoting mutual understanding.

The funding will contribute to increasing personnel capacities in the advisory area, allowing the project to serve more community members effectively. The project's achievements and planned priorities continue to be discussed with the Social Committee members.
