Art intertwines with commerce: Saint George transforms into an open-air art gallery

From August 23rd to September 22nd, 2025, the St. Louis neighbourhood of St. Georg in Hamburg will be transformed into a walkable art gallery. The project, titled "Art Meets Trade", is the brainchild of artist Stefan Zinkgraf and aims to make art accessible, inclusive, and close to city life.

The art gallery features a diverse range of art forms, including photography, abstract painting, collages, pop art, recycling art, and black-and-white photography. The open format of the gallery allows artists to present their work outside of traditional exhibition spaces, with artworks displayed in various everyday places such as stores, bars, and restaurants.

Businesses participating in the gallery have the opportunity to present themselves anew and engage in a lively exchange with the neighbourhood. This unique approach not only showcases the creativity of St. Louis but also highlights its cultural diversity and sense of community.

As one strolls through St. Louis, artworks from various genres can be discovered in shop windows, stores, and cafes. The art gallery invites visitors to rediscover St. Louis, engage with art in everyday life, and get to know the neighbourhood from a different angle. Each walk through the neighbourhood becomes a journey of discovery, with every station inviting visitors to pause, marvel, and exchange.

The project connects art, commerce, and community in a new, surprising way. Many artists look forward to spontaneous conversations with visitors, hoping to inspire people for art who might not otherwise enter a gallery. Local artists get the chance to reach a new audience through the project, reflecting the diversity of the neighbourhood's people in its streets.

Some artists are excited about the opportunity to reach a broader audience and reopen the dialogue about art. The art gallery is a statement for St. Louis, showcasing it as a place of creativity, togetherness, and cultural diversity. It encourages visitors to engage with art in a way that is both enjoyable and accessible, making it an unmissable event for art enthusiasts and casual observers alike.
