Greening Up Nizhny Nogorod
The city of Nizhny Nogorod is getting a makeover, as trees and shrubs take root in unexpected places. The focus is on the Gorky Rowing Canal embankment and the heart of the city itself. Here's what you can expect:
On the Gorky Rowing Canal:- 581 Black Pines- 177 Lilac bushes- 708 Goldfinger currant bushes
Choosing the right trees and shrubs for Nizhny Nogorod's urban environment is crucial. Large trees and special shrubs adapted to city life, like those that thrive near roads or can withstand strong winds, are top picks for planting.
Currently, a staggering 93% of planted trees are blooming, surpassing previous records! More than 100 large-leaved linden trees are set to be planted on Semashko, Kovalikhinsky, Minin, and Varvarskaya Streets to restore their historic beauty.
Following the city's head, Yuri Shalaev's decision, Nizhny Nogorod's center is now predominantly home to taller trees. An alley of coniferous trees is being developed on the Gorky Rowing Canal embankment.
The embankment is set for a significant transformation, with a whopping 11,500 square meters of new lawn being added to the previously sparsely greened area.
Coniferous trees were selected for their resilience. They're wind-resistant, do well by the water, and have root systems that easily take hold in sand, requiring minimal care. However, they'll need plenty of water upon planting for a successful start.
As these trees grow, they'll make the embankment more picturesque, act as noise and exhaust barriers, and contribute to better air quality. Residents are thrilled with these improvements!
Dmitry Elizarov expressed his approval: "It's high time for a green facelift here. A verdant wall from the road - genius idea!"
Many trees will also find a home in the city's historic center, which—with its dense construction—has been lacking in shade. The planted trees are chosen for their ability to thrive in an urban environment. Lindens with small leaves are well-suited for the cityscape and are known for their long lifespans.
All of the planted trees are, by contract, under warranty for two years to guarantee their health and continued growth. Stay tuned for more updates on Nizhny Nogorod's ongoing greening.
