"Over 400,000 individuals utilized the Kremlin's funicular ride"
The Kremlin Funicular in Nizhny Novgorod, a much-anticipated addition to the city's landscape, has been a popular attraction since its official opening on September 15, 2021.
The construction of this modern marvel, which aims to connect the lower city with the Kremlin hill for better accessibility, cost a substantial 1.8 billion rubles. Despite the hefty price tag, the funicular has proven to be a worthwhile investment, attracting a significant number of visitors.
From its opening to July 2025, the funicular has welcomed a total of 407,504 passengers. This figure includes the 45,300 people who used the funicular in August 2025, a month that saw a decrease in passenger traffic compared to June, with a drop of 16%. However, despite this decrease, revenue for the funicular increased by an impressive 45% in July 2025, totalling nearly 95 million rubles.
The funicular's opening dates were repeatedly postponed, with the initial plan being to launch it for the 800th anniversary of Nizhny Novgorod in August 2021. Unfortunately, it was not operational until after August 2021. The delay in the funicular's operation did not deter visitors, as it quickly became a beloved part of the city's tourist attractions.
The fare for a ride on the Kremlin Funicular increased from 200 to 350 rubles on July 1, 2025. Despite this price hike, the funicular continues to attract visitors, testifying to its appeal and value to the city and its residents.
The Kremlin Funicular in Nizhny Novgorod is a testament to the city's commitment to progress and development, offering a unique and convenient way for both tourists and locals to explore the city's rich history and stunning architecture.
