Neuss, Germany: Transforming the Former Racetrack into a Vibrant Citizens' Park

The Landesgartenschau Neuss 2026 GmbH has embarked on an exciting project to transform the former racetrack in Neuss, Germany, into a bustling citizens' park. The implementing organization commenced activities on January 1, 2023, working closely with the supporting association "Green Heart - Citizens' Park Neuss".

The ambitious plan involves not only hosting the Landesgartenschau from April to October 2026 but also the permanent transformation of the former racetrack into a park that will be accessible from all sides, serving as a connection between the Rhine and the city center.

To make way for structures and new tree plantings, undergrowth will be cleared, and non-essential trees will be felled. However, a focus on preserving large trees and valuable hedges has been approved by the nature conservation council. The number of trees that need to be felled will be determined after a joint on-site inspection.

Environmental considerations are at the forefront of this project. Experts from the nature conservation council will accompany the fine-tuning on site, ensuring habitats of bats and birds are not affected. Active measures to preserve valuable ecological assets, such as transplanting certain trees, will be implemented.

The recreational area is designed to invite year-round activities and relaxation. Barrier-free entrances will be built despite a significant height difference, ensuring the park is accessible to all.

Norbert Grimbach, chairman of the nature conservation council, emphasizes the importance of preserving the ecologically valuable stock, while Annette Nothnagel, managing director of LAGA GmbH, assures that decisions on tree removal will be made individually.

In cooperation with the supporting association "Green Heart - Citizens' Park Neuss", a recreational area is being created that promises to become a cherished part of the Neuss community. Adjustments to the planning may be made to preserve trees where possible, with a commitment to limiting fellings to what is necessary for the function of the citizens' park.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting transformation project in Neuss, Germany. For precise details about tree felling and ecological preservation efforts, local government or planning documents, press releases, or environmental impact assessments regarding this Neuss project would be the best sources.

The recreational area, designed with year-round activities in mind, will also incorporate elements of environmental science to preserve the existing flora, such as the transplantation of valuable trees. This homes and gardens project aligns with the lifestyle choices of promoting sustainable and eco-friendly spaces, as other ecological assets will be protected and carefully managed.
