In a bid to maintain the cleanliness and safety of Wiesbaden's playgrounds, the city cleaning service, ELW, has taken up the responsibility of the math playground since 2020. This duty, previously held by the Department for Green Spaces and Cemeteries (Amt für Grünflächen und Friedhöfe), has been transferred to ELW to ensure a more focused approach.

ELW, under the leadership of Boubakar Azzaoui, is responsible for cleaning Wiesbaden's 157 mathplayground at regular intervals. Some playgrounds are cleaned up to five times a week to ensure a pristine environment for children. The cleaning operation, which takes about 25 minutes, involves using tongs to pick up litter in the sandbox and around the swings and climbing frames.

To raise awareness about litter on playgrounds, ELW, in collaboration with the "Clean Hessen" campaign, has put up posters on eleven popular playgrounds. The posters, titled "Our nasty playmates," list common litter items such as cigarette butts, glass shards, bottle caps, syringes, used condoms, and dog poop.

The Green Space Office, another department within ELW, ensures the safety of the ap news equipment. They check the condition of the playgrounds once a week, shovel sand back into the play areas, rake leaves, and collect shards. Every three months, the playground control team carries out an operational inspection according to DIN 1176, checking the functionality of the playground equipment.

In 2024, around 350,000 euros were spent on repairs, and 635,000 euros on replacement purchases for the playground equipment. In 2025, replacement purchases of 995,000 euros are planned, with some already implemented, such as the play ship Eleonorenanlage and Alfred-Delp-Straße, new playground equipment on the Kinderspielplatz Warmer Damm, play tower on Hauptstraße, carousel at Kochbrunnenplatz, and more.

Minor repairs are made immediately, such as replacing swing seats, tightening screws, or filing down split wooden beams. The press release, issued by the Press Office of the State Capital Wiesbaden, provides a contact point for citizens to ask questions about the cleanliness of Wiesbaden's playgrounds.

The press release, titled "Our nasty playmates," is a 2.42 MB document and can be found on the city's official website: www.wiesbaden.de/rathaus/stadtverwaltung/pressereferat.html. The press release was issued to inform citizens about the efforts being made to maintain cleanliness in Wiesbaden's playgrounds and to raise awareness about litter on playgrounds.

The playground on Brunhildestraße is scheduled for cleaning on Thursday, for the second time this week. Citizens are encouraged to visit the city's playgrounds and enjoy a clean, well-maintained, and safe environment throughout the year, not just around World Children's Day.
