Pub owner Jeremy Clarkson unveils new edition of a popular British item, exclusively for patrons of his local tavern
Jeremy Clarkson, the popular TV personality, has launched a new all-British tomato ketchup, named Condimaniac, at his pub, The Farmer's Dog, and his Diddly Squat farm. The ketchup, priced at £7.95 per bottle, has been a highly anticipated addition to the menu due to Clarkson's commitment to serving exclusively British food.
The ketchup is produced by Condimaniac, a UK firm based in Chatham. It is made from Isle of Wight tomato passata, apple cider vinegar from Hampshire, Essex salt, British sugar, and onions. Due to the lack of a purely British tomato puree, the sauce is thickened with carrots and onions.
The initial production of Condimaniac ketchup consisted of 1,700 bottles, which were sold at Clarkson's one-stop butcher and bottle shop, as well as at his farm in Chipping Norton. The ketchup is now also available at The Farmer's Dog pub and Diddly Squat farm.
The idea for the all-British ketchup arose following discussions on Clarkson's Farm. If a British company could produce ketchup with all-British ingredients, it would be added to the pub's menu. This commitment to supporting the British food and farming industry has been a cornerstone of Clarkson's venture.
Despite some fan backlash over changes related to the British ketchup, the ketchup's recipe and sales volume have been well-received. Thousands of requests for ketchup at The Farmer's Dog pub in Burford, Oxfordshire, led to staff putting up a sign asking diners not to ask for it. However, supplies of Condimaniac's ketchup have since sold out.
Kier Kemp, the boss of Condimaniac, mentioned that creating a 100% British ketchup was challenging. Nevertheless, Condimaniac's ketchup meets Jeremy Clarkson's condition of using only UK ingredients.
The pub supports the British food and farming industry, and the launch of Condimaniac ketchup is a testament to this commitment. The source close to Clarkson's pub is hopeful that the ketchup will be a success. For those seeking a truly British ketchup, Condimaniac is now available at The Farmer's Dog pub and Diddly Squat farm.
