Rainbow Bus Initiative Launched by GöVB, Emphasizing Diversity and Tolerance
The city of Göttingen is set to welcome a vibrant new addition to its public transport network, as the Göttingen Public Transport Company (GöVB) introduces a 'rainbow' bus onto its streets from August 26, 2025.
The Rainbow Bus, as it has been named, is a visible representation of Göttingen's open-minded and tolerant character. It serves as a symbol of diversity and tolerance for the GöVB, and is intended to reach thousands of people daily, conveying the message that 'diversity rides with us.'
Michael Neugebauer, Managing Director of the GöVB, has emphasised the company's commitment to inclusivity, regardless of origin, appearance, or beliefs. He stated, 'We value inclusivity for both our passengers and employees.' The GöVB employs 470 people from more than 20 nations, reflecting the diverse community it serves.
The Rainbow Bus will operate year-round in the Göttingen line network, making it a visible presence throughout the city for 365 days a year. The bus is equipped with Verwalti, a digital guide from the administration, available to answer simple questions and direct passengers to the right contact person.
The city of Göttingen has also signed the 'Charter of Diversity,' signifying a strong commitment to diversity promotion and inclusion as part of its social responsibility. This charter is a large employer initiative promoting diversity, and the GöVB has publicly committed to it.
